Yuan Longping's legacy extends to many parts of the world outside China. Since the 1980s, Yuan's team has trained over 14,000 technicians in hybrid-rice planting methods in more than 80 developing countries, helping to reduce the threat of famine. John Macharia of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa told CGTN how hybrid rice has helped food security in the continent.
