"The so-called Uygur Tribunal in the UK is neither legal nor credible. It is just another anti-China farce concocted by a few people," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at Thursday's regular press conference.

Wang made the remarks when answering a reporter's question about the so-called Uygur Tribunal to be held in London on Friday.

The "tribunal" is a UK-based body that claims to be investigating allegations of "genocide and crimes against humanity" against ethnic minorities in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

It is funded by the "World Uygur Congress," which China classifies as an anti-China separatist organization with links to terrorism.

Wang said officials from Xinjiang have already dismissed the legitimacy of the tribunal.

He said the pseudo-court has nothing to do with the law and that the misguided use of the word "court" to engage in anti-China politics and the manipulation of public opinion distorts the law.

Wang also said the tribunal relies heavily on a group of people who depend on anti-China sentiments to make a living. The potential witnesses involved in the tribunal are actors and liars, he said.
