Passenger trips on domestic Chinese flights in the fourth quarter of 2020 recovered to 95.5 percent of the level of the same period in 2019 after the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the aviation sector, industrial data showed on Friday.

China's civil aviation industry recorded 418 million passenger trips last year, 63.3 percent of the level in 2019, data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China showed on Friday.

Investment in fixed assets reached 162.76 billion yuan ($24.49 billion) last year, hitting a record high, said the administration.

The investment in basic construction and technological reform reached 108.14 billion yuan last year, up 11.6 percent from that of 2019.

The revival of the domestic civil aviation business has extended into 2021. The domestic passenger made 102 million trips in the first quarter of the year, up 37.5 percent from the same period last year.

The sector handled an estimate of 8.66 million passenger trips during the May Day holiday from May 1 to May 5 this year, up 173.9 percent over the preceding year and basically in line with the 2019 level.
