Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday reiterated China's commitment to improving international cooperation on sustainable development. 

Wang renewed the pledge when he spoke at the Forum on the 20th Anniversary of Juncao Assistance and Sustainable Development Cooperation held in Beijing.  

He hailed Juncao technology, a successful practice China developed to fight poverty, as an important contribution to global sustainable development, adding that it has become an epitome of China's commitment to common development and prosperity with other developing countries. 

Juncao, also known as "magic grass," is a breed of grass that Chinese scientists found to be an economical and environment-friendly substitute for timber. It was traditionally used as a substrate for growing mushrooms – the word "juncao" is made of two Chinese characters meaning "mushroom" and "grass." Now, Juncao technology has been disseminated to 106 countries through training programs or on-site demonstrations.

Quoting Chinese President Xi Jinping, Wang said: "Common development is the real development, and sustainable development is the good development."  

China will continue to promote international cooperation in fighting COVID-19 and boosting development, perform international duties and obligations, and provide assistance, as its ability permits, to more developing countries to help them achieve sustainable development so as to jointly build a closer community with a shared future for mankind, Wang said.  

In a congratulatory letter to the forum read out by Wang, President Xi said that China stands ready to work with relevant parties to make further contributions to the implementation of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also sent a congratulatory message, while Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh, President of the Central African Republic Faustin-Archange Touadera, Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea, and Henry Puna, secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum, sent congratulations via video link. 

The forum was co-hosted by the China International Development Cooperation Agency and the Fujian provincial government.
