Beijing reiterates one-China principle for Taiwan's participation in regional economic cooperation
The one-China principle must be the precondition for China's Taiwan region's participation in regional economic cooperation, Zhu Fenglian, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said Wednesday.
Zhu made the remarks in response to reports that think tanks in Taiwan said the region should prioritize joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
"We resolutely oppose the discussion and signing of agreements with implications of sovereignty and of official nature between any country with a diplomatic relationship with China and the Taiwan region," said Zhu.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin also said on Tuesday that the Taiwan region's participation in regional economic cooperation must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle.
