Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday called on the U.S. to put the words into concrete action and bring its China policy back to a rational and pragmatic track.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki on Monday said leaders of two countries in their recent phone call have raised the case of Meng Wanzhou and cases of Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig. Paski said Washington's policy toward China hasn't changed, adding that the U.S. doesn't seek conflicts with China and bilateral ties are "a relationship of competition."

Responding to Psaki's remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Tuesday stressed that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government have always attached great importance to protecting every Chinese citizen's legitimate rights and interests.

"Since Meng was groundlessly detained in early December 2018, President Xi Jinping has given personal attention. The Chinese government has worked at various levels and on multiple occasions, provided consular protection and assistance to Ms. Meng, and lodged solemn representations with the U.S. and Canada, asking them to drop the erroneous charges against Meng and ensure her safe return to China as early as possible," said Hua.

According to Hua, China has put forward two lists to the U.S. side during July's bilateral talks in China's Tianjin, one of which is the List of U.S. Wrongdoings that Must Stop and the other, the List of Key Individual Cases that China Has Concerns with.

Hua added both lists have clearly demanded that the U.S. side should drop the erroneous charges against Meng and ensure her safe return to China as early as possible.

The spokesperson also confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping had raised the case of Meng Wanzhou in his phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden, saying he has made clear instructions on the work of the case, clarified China's position, and demanded that the U.S. resolve it properly as soon as possible.

Hua commented the resolution of Meng's case has positive significance while noting there are many other thorns in the bilateral relations because of the U.S. taking wrong policies toward China for a period of time.

She urged the U.S. side to take practical actions to clear these two lists China has proposed and meet China halfway to strengthen dialogue and cooperation under the spirit of the call between the two leaders and properly manage differences.

The U.S. side recently indicated that it does not want confrontation or Cold War and expressed hopes that bilateral relations will return to the right track, Hua said. She pointed out if the U.S. can fulfill its commitments, China is willing to work with the U.S. to improve bilateral relations that will satisfy and benefit both peoples.
