Developing whole-process people's democracy and ensuring it is the people who run the country was emphasized during a high-profile meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to a newly released communique on Thursday.

The concept of "whole-process people's democracy" was first used by President Xi when he visited Shanghai in November 2019. People's democracy stresses that the people will be at the center. Meanwhile, the idea of "whole-process" means China should practice a whole-process democracy in which the people have not only the right to election but also the right to be broadly involved in the whole process of decision-making and governance.

The sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee was held in Beijing from Monday to Thursday.

The plenum's communique said, "We should deepen reform and opening up across the board, promote common prosperity for all and build up our country's strength in science and technology."

It stressed enhancing law-based governance in all respects, people's well-being, upholding the core socialist values and promoting harmony between humanity and nature.

The communique also said the country also needs to modernize its national defense and armed forces to balance development and security and take well-coordinated steps to make "our people prosperous, our nation strong and our country beautiful."

It also stressed that the entire Party must keep close ties with the people and forever act to better realize, safeguard and advance the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the people.

A landmark resolution on the major achievements and historical experience of the CPC's 100 years of endeavors was reviewed and adopted at the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, according to the communique.
