Photographed by local resident Nian Lei on November 28, whooper swans were seen foraging and playing at Bosten Lake, China's second largest inland freshwater lake in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The bird is a powerful flyer despite its large body size, and can migrate thousands of miles to wintering grounds.
