Team China, consisting of Fan Kexin, Qu Chunyu, Ren Ziwei and Wu Dajing, claimed its first gold at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games completing the 2,000m mixed team relay of short-track speed skating in 2 minutes and 37.348 seconds on Saturday.

Therese Johaug of Norway won the first gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in the cross-country skiing women's 7.5 km + 7.5 km skiathlon on Saturday.

Germany's Claudia Pechstein became the oldest woman to compete at the Winter Olympics when the decorated speed skater competed at the age of 49 years and 348 days in Beijing on Saturday. She is also the only woman to have taken part in eight editions of the Winter Games.

Pierre Ducrey, International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Olympic Games operations director, told CGTN in a virtual interview that "We are here to build bridges. That's what the Games are about."

The women's ski jumping normal hill event at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was a Slovenian party on Saturday, as Ursa Bogataj took gold, ahead of Germany's Katharina Althaus with silver and fellow Slovenian Nika Kriznar with bronze.

Arianna Fontana, Martina Valcepina, Pietro Sighel and Andrea Cassinelli of Team Italy won the silver medal during the Short Track Speed Skating mixed team relay on Saturday.
