British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday held a phone conversation with S.Korean president-elect Yoon Suk-yeol, said Downing Street.

Johnson said that he looked forward to deepening the UK's relationship with South Korea during Yoon's presidency and hoped negotiations would begin on an enhanced trade deal later this year.

The two leaders also touched on deepening digital, industrial and military cooperation between the two countries, according to Downing Street.

Yoon of the main conservative opposition People Power Party won a narrow victory in the South Korean presidential election on March 10.
