Chinese authorities said on Friday that they had never given up hope on finding possible survivors from the China Eastern Airlines flight which crashed on Monday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Shallow surface excavation has started at the core search area of the crash site. Rescuers are also combing the mountainous area for the second black box, following the recovery of the first one on Wednesday.
