Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, chaired the meeting, which made arrangements for further follow-up.

During the meeting, the Standing Committee stressed the importance of putting people's lives first and properly handling the situation.

Efforts should be continued to preserve the dignity of the deceased and provide more solace to their families, said the committee.

It also called for a scientific and orderly investigation into the incident to find out its cause and nature and said all related information should be published in a timely, accurate, open and transparent manner.
