Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Ukraine with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a phone call on Thursday.

According to a statement from the Turkish presidency, Erdogan reiterated Turkey's readiness to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine.

The statement also said that Putin thanked Erdogan for assistance in prisoner swap between Russia and the U.S. in Turkey.
