Xi Jinping sends congratulatory message to new UAE president

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday congratulated Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his assuming the presidency of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a congratulatory message, Xi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, China and the UAE have developed their relations comprehensively and deeply.

Both sides have always supported each other firmly on issues related to each other's core interests and major concerns, he said.

The two countries have seen fruitful practical cooperation in various fields, remarkable results in the joint efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and the deepening friendship between the two peoples, said the Chinese president.

Xi added that he attaches great importance to the development of China-UAE relations, and stands ready to work with the new president to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership for the benefit of the two countries and the two peoples.

Sheikh Mohamed, 61, succeeds Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died on Friday.
