Premier Li congratulates new Australian Prime Minister Albanese

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday sent a message of congratulations to Anthony Albanese, hours after he was sworn in as Australia's new prime minister.

The Australian Labor Party leader won the federal election on Saturday to become the country's 31st prime minister.

In his message, Premier Li said that a healthy and stable development of China-Australia relations is in the fundamental interests and common aspirations of both peoples, and is conducive to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

Li said that the Australian Labor Party made the right choice to establish diplomatic relations with China in the 1970s, and has made an important contribution to the development of relations between the two countries.

Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, Li said China stands ready to work together with Australia to review the past and look to the future and in the principle of mutual respect and win-win benefits, to promote the healthy and stable development of the China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.
