The significance of Wang Yi's Pacific Island sojourn

Wang said China and South Pacific Island countries are all in the Asia-Pacific region and enjoy a lasting bond of friendship between our peoples, with recent years' expanding exchanges and cooperation bringing great benefits to the people of both sides.

Developing friendly and cooperative relations with the PICs is a long-term strategic policy of China's diplomacy, the spokesperson emphasized, adding China upholds the principles of mutual benefit, win-win cooperation, openness and inclusiveness when developing ties with PICs.

Wang also said the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and PICs is conducive to the interests of both sides as well as to regional peace, stability and development.

He urged parties concerned to look at the development of China's relations with the PICs objectively and rationally, and work together to play a more constructive role in promoting regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
