Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that China and India should meet each other halfway to push bilateral relations back onto the track of stable and healthy development at an early date. 

Wang made the remarks when meeting with new Indian Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat in Beijing, stressing that the two countries' common interests far outweigh their differences.

China and India should support rather than undermine each other, strengthen cooperation rather than guard against each other, and enhance mutual trust rather than be suspicious of each other, Wang said. 

He called on the two sides to jointly address various global challenges, and safeguard the common interests of China and India as well as the vast number of developing countries. 

Rawat said that India will firmly pursue an independent foreign policy, and is willing to work with China to strengthen communication, properly handle differences, enhance mutual trust, and keep advancing bilateral cooperation.

Wang on Wednesday also met with Jang Ha-sung, ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to China, who will soon leave his post and return to his country. 

Wang thanked Jang for dedicating a lot of efforts and making important contributions to deepening China-ROK relations during his tenure.

China's friendly policy toward the ROK has not changed, and China will continue to place the ROK in an important position in its neighborhood diplomacy, Wang said. China hopes the new ROK government will also continue to adhere to its friendly policy toward China, he added. 

Jang said he believes that China will maintain the strong momentum of development, and that the friendship and pragmatic cooperation between the ROK and China will be further advanced. 

Jang will be succeeded by Chung Jae-ho, a professor at Seoul National University. ROK President Yoon Suk-yeol named Chung as new ambassador to China earlier this month.
