Foreign experts have expressed their firm support for the one-China principle and condemned the visit to China's Taiwan region by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, as detrimental to China-U.S. relations.

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, 181 countries including the U.S., have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of recognizing the one-China principle.

Mario Cavolo, a senior fellow at the Center for China and Globalization, told CGTN's Dialogue that Pelosi's visit to Taiwan has gone over the line. "They have breached the one-China principle, and they have breached the basis for diplomacy between China and the U.S.," Cavolo said.

Mentioning the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit Taiwan in 25 years, Stephen Roach, a Yale University senior fellow and former Federal Reserve economist, told CNBC, "We're on a trajectory of escalating conflict, and this will certainly make matters worse."

"It plays well to local politics in the United States and in Taiwan, but it does not play well to geo-strategic forces that are pushing China and the U.S. apart," Roach said.

Cambodian expert Kin Phea held a similar opinion that the speaker's visit damaged the relations between China and the U.S.

"Pelosi's visit to China's Taiwan region is a provocation to China, which will damage China-U.S. relations and destabilize the region and the world," Kin Phea, director-general of the International Relations Institute of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, told Guangming Daily.

Kin added that the visit once again proved that certain U.S. politicians have become troublemakers in China-U.S. relations, and the U.S. has become a country undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.
