The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired two ballistic missiles toward its eastern waters on Saturday, Yonhap reported, citing the Republic of Korea's (ROK) military.

The ROK's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement that it detected two short-range ballistic missiles, launched by the DPRK from the Sunan area in Pyongyang between 6:45 a.m. and 7:03 a.m. local time into the eastern waters.

"While strengthening our monitoring and vigilance, our military is maintaining a full readiness posture in close cooperation with the United States," the JCS said in a text message sent to reporters, Yonhap reported.

On Thursday, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris made a daylong visit to the ROK, during which she met with President Yoon Suk-yeol and toured the Demilitarized Zone.

The DPRK fired two short-range ballistic missiles into its eastern waters on Wednesday and Thursday respectively and one short-range ballistic missile into the eastern waters on Sunday.

According to the military of the ROK, in 2022 alone, the DPRK has test-fired ballistic missiles 20 times and cruise missiles twice.
