China has built a moderately prosperous society far beyond anticipation and met the goals set by the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Sun Yeli, spokesperson for the 20th National Congress of the CPC, told a press conference on Saturday.
By 2020, China's gross domestic product reached 101.6 trillion yuan (around $14.13 trillion), ranking as the world's second largest economy, he said.
Sun stressed the key to building a moderately prosperous society depends on the improvement of the living conditions of the impoverished people. The CPC achieved complete victory in eradicating absolute poverty by lifting 98.99 million impoverished rural residents out of poverty by the end of 2020, he said.
