Reporter's note: This is the third episode of our special series "Millennials on the Rise," where CGTN speaks to some of the youngest delegates to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). They are grassroots Party members from all walks of life, ranging from the deputy chief of a Guizhou township to the head of an emergency rescue unit.

An environmental protection major in college, Yan Huanhuan joined the environment department in a state-owned enterprise right after graduation.

"Through years of technology breakthroughs and research, our team has utilized a new type of chemicals in wastewater treatment, which substitutes the traditional agents," Yan told CGTN. The company Yan's working with established an "innovation workshop" under her name, hoping to group up the young aspiring engineers like Yan in devoting to the green cause.

"I want to have my share of contribution to the cause of China's environmental protection through my efforts," the 35-year-old said.

As a delegate to the ongoing 20th CPC National Congress, she said she was proud to represent grassroots-level workers.

"I think I was placed with great responsibility, too," she said. "Eco-civilization requires the participation, joint construction of all, and will be shared by all. It requires the participation of more people. I hope to see more young people come join me in the fight for this cause."
