Sparse shrub meadows on the plateau of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province provide safe shelter as an ideal habitat for newborn Thorold's deer. In July, the fawns have to leave their favorite shrub to migrate toward the alpine grassland at 5,000 meters above sea level.
