Respecting the elderly is a fine tradition and virtue of the Chinese nation. The happiness of the elderly hinges on the care from the whole society. On January 18, President Xi Jinping had a video call with Fuzhou Social Welfare Institute in southeast China's Fujian Province. Xi, also the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, extended festive greetings to the elderly and nurses working there. Xi pointed out that as the pace of population aging is becoming faster in China, it is imperative to ensure that the elderly have a happy life. Liu Xiaolan, an elderly resident at the institute, expressed her gratitude to President Xi for his concern.
