A heavy downpour flooded parts of northwestern Peru, leaving some residents fearing that their homes might be severely damaged. The area experienced several hours of heavy rain accompanied by lightning, the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru said. Many families had to abandon their homes because of the flooding. Residents say authorities came to the area to offer them help.
