Editor's Note: As part of the "Fields of Hope" special coverage that focuses on China's rural vitalization strategy, CGTN's team of journalists have been in China's Jiangxi Province on April 18 to provide reports and insights. The following is a brief background of the province's economic progress:
East China's Jiangxi Province has seen rapid economic development spurred by progress in the agriculture, trade and digital industries in recent years.
In 2022, the province's GDP grew the fastest in the country at 4.7 percent year on year to a record high of over 3 trillion yuan ($440 billion).
Jiangxi's imports and exports demonstrated strong growth momentum in 2022, with a 34.9-percent increase in the trade of goods, 27.2 percentage points higher than the national average, to over 600 billion yuan in value.
Another bright spot for Jiangxi is its agricultural sector. The province's abundant natural resources, favorable climate conditions and government support have enabled it to become a major producer of commodities like rice, tea and fish.
Local farmers have embraced modern farming techniques, resulting in increased yields and higher-quality produce. As a result, the province's agricultural output reached 421 billion yuan in 2022, up 4.3 percent from the previous year.
Jiangxi has made great strides in advancing its digital economy. The added value of its digital economy has exceeded 1 trillion yuan in 2022, and accounted for 35 percent of the provincial GDP.
In its government work report, Jiangxi pledged to lift the proportion of its digital economy to over 45 percent of the regional GDP in the next five years.
With continued investment and innovation, Jiangxi is poised to continue its growth trajectory and become a key player in China's overall economic development.
