Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday congratulated Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez for his re-election as Cuban president.
Diaz-Canel was re-elected for a new five-year term during the opening session of Cuba's new parliament on Wednesday. He is also the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
In a congratulatory message, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China-Cuba relations have been growing at a high level, with new progress continuously made.
Describing Diaz-Canel's state visit to China last November as "a complete success," Xi recalled that the two presidents reached consensus on deepening the special and friendly relations between the two countries.
"I attach great importance to the development of China-Cuba relations, and stand ready to maintain close communication with President Diaz-Canel to continue to strengthen the political guidance of the relations between the two parties and two countries, and join hands to build a China-Cuba community with a shared future," he said.
