Huayin Laoqiang is the name given to a traditional form of shadow puppet show. It translates as Huayin Old Tunes, and originated in the chanting of the boatmen working at the confluence of the Yellow, Weihe and Luohe Rivers, close to the city of Huayin in Shaanxi province. This chanting evolved into folk songs which, with time, were illustrated with puppets shows. The loud music, rustic instruments and enthusiastic performances epitomize the way the local people lead their life.
