The list of wild animals with important ecological, scientific and social values was announced recently. The newly adjusted list has more than 700 new species of wildlife compared with the old one released in 2000.
The wild boar was removed from the new list. The reason is that the survival of wild boars is not currently threatened but rather may destroy the natural ecosystem.
In 2000, China officially introduced the list, which aims to protect wild animals on the list and states that people should not hunt and kill wild animals at will. With the protection of wild animals, their habitat continues to recover.
Due to their strong reproductive ability, wild boar populations are growing faster than those of their natural predators, such as tigers, leopards, wolves and jackals. In recent years, wild boars have been destroying fields and injuring people in many parts of China. At present, wild boars are flooded in some areas.
People have set up hunting teams one after another in order to bring down the population of wild boars and maintain a good ecological environment so that farmers will not suffer from the excessive losses.
An expert from the Chinese Academy of Forestry added that whether wild boar is on the list or not, wildlife is not to be hunted or eaten.
