The Chinese track and field team bagged two gold medals and one bronze on the second day of the Asian Athletics Championships on Thursday in Bangkok, Thailand.

Wang Qi and Zhao Jie won the men's and women's hammer throw events, respectively, and Liu Dezhu finished third in the men's 1,500-meter event, clocking 3 minutes and 42.30 seconds.

Wang sealed the victory with his fourth attempt of 72.13 meters and Zhao with her second, 69.39 meters. Zhao exhibited dominance in the final, exceeding 67 meters in all six attempts while nobody else made it past the benchmark.

Rising star Liu was leading with less than 200 meters left but was overtaken by Indian and Japanese runners before the finishing line. He will go on to compete in the 800m event.

"He did well and stuck to our plan, but he's not at his best this time and was exposed to his weak spot in the last bit," said coach Shi Peng.

In the women's 100m hurdles final, Wu Yanni was disqualified for a false start.

Team China have won a total of three gold medals, three silvers and one bronze in the first two days, having clinched one gold and three silvers earlier on Wednesday.
