Nangchen County links the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and the Hengduan Mountains. A combination of steep topography and a mild climate makes Nangchen a fertile oasis within the barren plateau region and an ecological barrier at the source of the Lancang River. Baizha Forest Farm in Nangchen hosts a rare canyon forest on the plateau, which myriad wild beasts inhabit.
