The warm, humid climate has nurtured a rich treasure trove of wildlife in Xishuangbanna, southwest China's Yunnan Province, making it one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. Roaming the rainforest unchallenged, the Asian elephant is undoubtedly the "queen of the rainforest." The Asian elephant was once found across the continent, but its habitat has shrunk over the millennia to become merely this stretch of rainforest. Now, there are nearly 300 wild Asian elephants in Xishuangbanna.
About 'Journeys in Nature': Unexplored Land
"Unexplored Land" travels from the Qinling Mountains in northwest China's Shaanxi Province to southwest China's Yunnan Province, from the Changbai Mountains in northeast China to Jiangsu Province in east China. The stories offer an insight into the life of many unique species in China. A huge quantity of priceless footage was obtained through many hours of patient waiting and tracking in the field.
