Upon reaching sexual maturity, the male elephants become attentive. They use their supple, agile trunks to move heavy objects like timbers. This helps tone the phalanx of muscles into sinewy instruments, which attest to their strength as a symbol of masculinity. What may seem to be rowdy antics are actually a way for them to release overloaded energy. This is of vital importance in their future bids for mating rights. When they can no longer curb the urge, they get ready to leave the herd for a new start.
