Derbyan parakeets are species of parrots with bright colors. Perched on banyan trees in Mangba Community, southwest China's Yunnan Province, these smart little birds are faithful companions to the Blang ethnic group that has lived here for many generations. Thus, the place is dubbed "Parrot Community."

Forest ranger Wang Cheng and bird photographer Yang Xuefei got acquainted thanks to birds. This time, Yang Xuefei was called on by Wang to help identify a bird recently sighted near the community. Toting heavy gear to work in the field comes with an array of challenges, but the photographer has his "best bro" as a companion.
