Kunqu is a traditional Chinese theatrical art form that is often regarded as one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera. It has a rich history and a distinctive style that combines singing and acting with graceful, stylized movements.

"The Peony Pavilion" is one of the most famous Kunqu masterpieces. Written by Chinese playwright Tang Xianzu (1550-1616) during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it tells the story of the romance between a daughter of a wealthy official and a talented but poor young scholar. Kunqu Opera is a UNESCO-listed intangible cultural heritage.
