Leaders of South American nations gathered for the first time in nine years on May 30 for a historic summit in Brazil to unify the politically diverse continent and form a stronger trade bloc. Also proposed were plans to counter U.S. dollar hegemony in the region, which could have huge impacts on regional and global trade. What brought about the summit? How have politics shifted on the continent and throughout Latin America? And what would a unified South America mean for the region and the world? To discuss these issues and more, we are joined by Jorge Heine, former Chilean ambassador to China, Charles Tang, chairman of Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Brandon Andrews, former Hill staffer and entrepreneur, and Jiang Shixue, professor at Shanghai University.
