A total of 830-million-passenger trips were made from July to August on China's railway system, a record high, the China State Railway Group (CR) said on Friday, and about 640 million tonnes of goods were also transported by rail in the same period.

In addition to boosting capacity, China's railway system also upgraded services and maintained a safe record over the two months, according to the CR.

During the two-month period, the railway saw an average of 10,269 passenger trains setting off. Top daily sales reached 19.1 million tickets and top daily trips was nearly 15.7 million.

The top 10 travel sources and destinations include Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xi'an, Changsha and Nanjing.

The 12306.cn online service was improved during the period, with the addition of notifications about temporary checking window changes.

Fast transfers from one train to another were enabled in 120 stations across the country. Many cities have seamlessly integrated the train stations with local bus and subway networks.

On logistics, a total of 74 million tonnes of coal and 19.6 million tonnes of grain were transported.

The railway also withstood the test of extreme weather including multiple typhoons. Hundreds of thousands of railway staff were involved in the work to safeguard the orderly operation of the system.
