Tides Surging: The emblem of the 19th Asian Games

The "Tides Surging" emblem of the 19th Asian Games first made an appearance in June 2018.

The design of "Tides Surging" is composed of six elements: a fan, the Qiantang River, the tidal bore of the Qiantang River, a race track, the Wi-Fi internet symbol, and a symbol of the sun. Below these elements is the city's name and "2022," together forming the complete emblem of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

According to the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, the fan shape reflects the cultural heritage of the area to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the race track represents sports competition, the internet symbol aligns with Hangzhou's technological characteristics, and the sun symbolizes the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

Simultaneously, the Qiantang River and its tidal bore are the central visual elements of the emblem. The lush green waters and mountains showcase the natural beauty of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, while the surging tides represent the spirited and determined nature of the people of Zhejiang.

Xu Liyi, the Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee and the Mayor of Hangzhou, believes that the design of the Hangzhou Asian Games emblem embodies a contemporary spirit, aligns with Olympic values, highlights the city's cultural heritage and unique features, possesses distinctive visual identity and originality, and fully expresses the enthusiastic anticipation of the general public for the Asian Games.

The Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee invited representatives from various sectors of society to convene a review committee for the emblem design proposals. The consensus among participants was that "Tides Surging" exudes a strong contemporary vibe, embodies a rich cultural essence, and showcases originality.

After multiple rounds of expert reviews and a series of procedures, the design by Professor Yuan Youmin from the China Academy of Art emerged as the chosen emblem design from a total of 4,263 entries.
