Thirty-six of the 71 crocodiles that escaped from a farm in Guangdong Province have been caught, and no deaths or injuries to humans have been reported. A search for the rest of the crocodiles is ongoing.
Torrential downpours caused by Typhoon Haikui hit Maoming City over the weekend, with floodwaters causing the collapse of part of an enclosure at a commercial crocodile farm, leaving two gaps through which the animals escaped. The 69 adults and two juveniles that escaped are Siamese crocodiles. The breaches in the enclosure have been temporarily sealed by barbed wire to prevent more crocodiles from escaping.
