Team China flaunted their superiority in the race walk at the 19th Asian Games, triumphantly claiming all the gold medals on offer.
A spectacular performance unfolded on Wednesday as Qieyang Shijie, spearheading the host nation's efforts, guided the Chinese contingent to the pinnacle of success on the highest podium in the 35-kilometer mixed team in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.
This marked the first appearance of the event at the Asian Games. In this competition, male and female athletes alternate as they take on different legs. The men complete the first and third legs, while the women tackle the second and fourth legs. Ultimately, the combined time of the top male and female participants determines the winner.
Team China, consisting of the formidable quartet of Qieyang Shijie, Bai Xueying, He Xianghong and Wang Qin, dominated the race throughout, leading from the beginning till the end. With an impressive time of 5 hours, 16 minutes and 41 seconds, they claimed the first place by a huge margin. Japan and India settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Adding to their earlier success in the men's and women's 20km race walk events, China have now accomplished a sweep of golds in this discipline in Hangzhou.
It also marked the culmination of a surreal season for Qieyang, who only finished third in the women's 20km race walk at the London Olympics. In a turn of events, the 32-year-old was subsequently bestowed with the golden accolade in March.
This upgrade came about as the result of the retrospective disqualification of Russian gold and silver medalists Elena Lashmanova and Olga Kaniskina, who were found to have infringed upon regulations by utilizing prohibited substances.
On Wednesday night, the Chinese Olympic Committee is set to host a ceremony where they will formally place the overdue gold from the London Olympics into the hands of Qieyang. This extraordinary event will result in the Chinese veteran achieving a sensational feat: receiving both an Olympic gold and an Asian Games gold medal in one day.

In three days' competition, each team will consist of a 12-member crew, comprising 10 dedicated paddlers, one skilled drummer, one expert steersperson, and two reserve members ready to step in if needed.
