Baoxing County in the southern Qionglai Mountains is where giant pandas were first discovered in China. The county has become home to at least 181 wild giant pandas, second only to those roaming the Qinling Mountains in number. Since the 1990s, large-scale reforestation has reconnected the giant pandas' fragmented habitats. Stretching from 1,200 to 3,400 meters, the mixed forests are the giant pandas' favorite playground. In this region, encountering a giant panda doesn't seem to require much fuss.

About Journeys in Nature: Qionglai Mountains Series

Giant pandas were first discovered in the Qionglai Mountains in southwest China's Sichuan Province. There are more than 500 wild pandas living in the mountains now. However, there are a lot more than just pandas. In this series, you will see red pandas, sambar deer and Tibetan macaques. CGTN Nature takes you on a journey to track the pandas deep in the bamboo groves and uncover some interesting stories with the locals.
