Chinese premier: China ready to enhance synergy of development strategies with Cuba

China firmly supports Cuba in building socialism, and stands ready to enhance synergy of development strategies with Cuba, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Saturday.

Li made the remarks when meeting with Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, who came to China to attend the 6th China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

Both China and Cuba are socialist countries under the leadership of the Communist Party and their special friendly relations are unbreakable and stand firm with time, said Li.

He noted that China is ready to work with Cuba to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, turn their high-level relations into more tangible results, and push forward the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future.

China always supports Cuba's just fight for its sovereignty and against interference, and is willing to continue to strengthen communication and coordination with Cuba in the multilateral field, jointly safeguard fairness and justice, and promote fairer and more equitable development of global governance, Li said.

China is also willing to leverage economic complementarity with Cuba, expand bilateral trade and foster more highlights in cooperation in fields of new energy, biological medicine, agriculture, tourism and digital economy under the guidance of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, Li added.

Marrero said that Cuba firmly supports the major global initiatives put forward by China, firmly upholds the one-China principle, and stands ready to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen the exchange of experience in governance between the two parties and the two countries, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, jointly advance the Belt and Road cooperation and push for the development of the international order in a more just and equitable direction.

Cuba will make unremitting efforts to promote cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries, he added.

The two prime ministers witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents after the meeting.
