Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing called for efforts to promote the high-quality development and large-scale application of the 5G-powered industrial internet, or "5G+ Industrial Internet," on Monday, during the opening ceremony of the 2023 China 5G+ Industrial Internet Conference in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province.

"We should fully unleash the effect of the '5G+ Industrial Internet' in urban development so as to better support the advancement of new industrialization," said Zhang.

Themed "Integration of Data and Reality to Vigorously Promote New Industrialization," the three-day event will run from November 19 to 21 and aims to advance the integration of the digital and real economies and foster innovation in 5G and the industrial internet.

Two special sessions and nearly 20 related meetings are also scheduled during the event, with an exhibition on "5G+ industrial internet" innovation achievements.

The event gathers various sources, including politics, industry, academia and research, to explore new-generation information technologies, such as 5G and artificial intelligence.

Now in its fourth year, the event is China's first national-level conference on 5G and the industrial internet.

Systematic breakthroughs

In recent years, China has made substantial strides in developing the "5G+ Industrial Internet," boasting the world's largest and most technologically advanced international network, which has more than three million 5G base stations.

During this year's conference, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong emphasized systematic breakthroughs in developing the "5G+ Industrial Internet."

"We will vigorously promote industrial innovation, conduct collaborative research across the industrial chain, advance the systematic breakthroughs in key products like industrial internet and public industrial software systems, establish the '5G+ Industrial Internet' standard system and give play to 5G's leading advantages," Jin said.

Wang Menghui, secretary of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, said the development of the "5G+ Industrial Internet" is expected to bring opportunities in the new round of technological revolution.

"The robust development of the digital economy has significantly changed the global allocation of resources, industrial development patterns and people's lifestyles. Driving the integrated development of 5G technologies and industrial internet is a strategic choice to seize opportunities in the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation," Wang said.
