Though without hair or scales, the Amur brown frog can hibernate in the frigid river for months. The damage done to many organisms by freezing occurs mainly in their cells. But the Amur brown frog has its special "antifreeze." The cold-resistant substance reduces the freezing point of its body fluids to protect its core organs.
