Nearly 200 diplomats from 66 countries in China and representatives of international organizations such as the Asian Development Bank and the European Union, along with their families, gathered in Mentougou District in Beijing to participate in a party to celebrate Lantern Festival.
Organizers provided intangible cultural heritage performances such as yangge folk dances and martial arts plays, all accompanied by loud and festive gongs and drums that thrilled many audience members.
To some extent, the bustling Lantern Festival activities that mark the end of the Spring Festival celebrations are similar to carnivals in the West. The lively celebrations aim to set a vibrant tone for the Year of the Dragon.
Right next to the slew of festivities was a cultural fair that featured local specialties, festive food, and souvenirs to let diplomats experience the vibe of Lantern Festival.
