China, Indonesia vow to push ties to new level as Wang Yi meets Prabowo Subianto

China and Indonesia on Thursday agreed to work toward pushing their comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China has always regarded Indonesia as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and a reliable partner in global affairs.

China supports Indonesia in playing a bigger role in international and regional affairs and stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Indonesian side to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, making sure the future of the region always be in its own hands, Wang said.

China is committed to building higher levels of strategic mutual trust with Indonesia, fostering comprehensive cooperation, supporting each other's modernization efforts, and elevating their comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights, Wang added.

For his part, Prabowo thanked the Chinese side for the warm and thoughtful arrangements for his visit which was short but impressive and beneficial.

He added that he hopes to continuously push forward bilateral strategic cooperation at a higher level and upgrade the bilateral relations.

Wang, who is on an official visit to Indonesia, also met with President Joko Widodo and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday.
