Premier League club Liverpool have reached a compensation deal with Eredivisie's Feyenoord for manager Arne Slot, ESPN reported on Friday.

Slot, 45, told ESPN Netherlands on Thursday that he's willing to manage Liverpool, who will part ways with their current boss, Jurgen Klopp, after the 2023-24 season. One of the major obstacles in Slot's way to Anfield is his contract with Feyenoord. Last year, he signed a three-year extension with the club that will run till the end of the 2025-26 season.

According to ESPN, Feyenoord will let Slot go for 9 million pounds. Though it's unclear how much Liverpool have agreed to pay, they are now free to negotiate with the manager over personal terms.

"It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I'm waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I'm very confident in that," Slot told ESPN Netherlands on Thursday. He rejected offers from Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur previously to stay at the Rotterdam-based club.

Feyenoord won the Eredivisie title last season and will finish the 2023-24 campaign as the runners-up behind PSV Eindhoven. They beat Ajax 6-0 in early April, giving the Dutch powerhouse their worst loss in 97 years.

Before settling compensation with Feyenoord for Slot, Liverpool were also interested in recruiting Bayer 04 Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso and Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim. Alonso announced earlier this month that he would stay in Leverkusen.

"I like the way his team play(s) football," Klopp praised Slot at a press conference on Friday. "All the things I heard about him as a guy, a good guy, some people I know know him; I don't know him yet, but some people tell me that he's a really good guy, and I like that a lot. Good coach, good guy – looking forward for the club if he is the solution."
