Chinese athletes continue winning ways on August 1 at Paris Olympics

China's athletes earned two gold medals and three bronze medals on Thursday at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

Yang Jiayu of China claimed the gold medal in the women's 20-kilometer race walk final with a season-best 1:25:54, topping the podium ahead of Spain's Maria Perez (1:26:19) and Australia's Jemima Montag (1:26:25).

Two other Chinese athletes, Ma Zhenxia and Liu Hong, finished 11th and 21st, respectively.

In shooting, China's Liu Yukun claimed the gold medal in the men's 50-meter rifle three positions final with a score of 463.6 points.

Serhiy Kulish of Ukraine took the silver with 461.3 points and Swapnil Kusale of India secured the bronze with 451.4 points.

In swimming, China's Zhang Yufei took the bronze medal in the women's 200-meter butterfly final.

Summer Mcintosh of Canada won the gold while Regan Smith of the USA claimed the silver.

In the women's 4×200m freestyle relay final, Chinese swimmers Yang Junxuan, Li Bingjie, Ge Chutong and Liu Yaxin captured bronze after finishing in a time of seven minutes, 42.34 seconds.

Australia earned gold in an Olympic record time of seven minutes, 38.08 seconds, while the USA settled for silver after touching the wall next in seven minutes, 40.86 seconds.

Ma Zhenzhao earned China's first Olympic judo medal in Paris after defeating Anna-Maria Wagner of Germany 1-0 to win the bronze medal match in the women's 78kg division.

In table tennis, China's Fan Zhendong defeated Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto 4-3 in their men's singles quarterfinal match.

Fan is set to meet Felix Lebrun of host nation France in the semifinals on Friday.

In women's singles, both Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng advanced to the semifinals.

Sun will face Hina Hayata of Japan while Chen is set to clash with Shin Yu-bin of South Korea in Friday's semifinals.

In tennis, Zheng Qinwen of China upset World No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland to reach the women's singles final.

Zheng will compete for women's singles gold when she faces Donna Vekic of Croatia in the title match.

Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu powered into the tennis mixed doubles title match, marking the first time for a Chinese mixed doubles duo to reach the Olympic final.

China's Zhang and Wang, who defeated Dutch duo Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 in the semifinals, will face Czech pair Tomas Machac and Katerina Siniakova in the title match.

Also, China's women's volleyball team will face Serbia in their third group stage match after defeating hosts France 25-18, 25-16, 25-19.

China, with two wins and five points, currently top Group A, followed by Serbia and the USA, with those two teams having one win apiece.

In badminton, China's mixed doubles pair of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong dominated their match against Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino on Thursday, winning 21-14, 21-15.

The top-seeded duo will face Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun of South Korea in the final on Friday.

He Bingjiao, who defeated PV Sindhu of India 21-19 and 21-14 in the round of 16, will face compatriot Chen Yufei in the women's singles quarterfinals.
