The second supermoon of 2024 will make a spectacular appearance on September 18, 2024, and experts said people will get to enjoy a bigger and brighter moon throughout the night of September 17 and 18, just in time for the Chinese people to gather around and appreciate a full moon at the Mid-Autumn Festival.
A supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with the closest point of its elliptical orbit around Earth, making it appear larger and brighter than a typical full moon. This year, the full moon debuts at 10:34 a.m. on September 18 in China.

Astronomy experts recommended that the optimal period to appreciate the moon is about one hour after sunset, when the moon is newly ascended and the night has not yet fully fallen.
According to Xiu Lipeng, a member of the Chinese Astronomical Society, the supermoon on September 18 will be the largest full moon of the year.
