Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that he would not attend the G20 summit in Brazil in November.

Putin said he had a "very good friendship" with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, at a meeting with the heads of leading media outlets from BRICS countries, days ahead of the BRICS summit in Kazan.

After assuming the G20 presidency on December 1, Brazil said it will hold the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro November 18-19.
