China is closely following the developments in northern Myanmar and has been urging relevant parties of the country to engage in dialogue and consultation, stop the fighting as soon as possible, settle differences through peaceful means and avoid escalation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) announced a ceasefire, stating that it is "willing to engage in peace talks with the Myanmar army under China's mediation."

In response, Lin commended the MNDAA's "recent positive remarks," underscoring the need for all parties to prioritize stability. "In particular, they should not endanger the security and safety of China's border areas, Chinese people living in the border areas and Chinese projects, companies and personnel in Myanmar," he said.

Lin reiterated China's commitment to supporting the peace process in northern Myanmar and pledged to continue efforts to facilitate dialogue.
